SpacePak® mini-duct high velocity

The perfect solution for adding air-conditioning and/or heating to historic homes and buildings, where ductwork is not practical, or impossible. The 2" inside diameter pre-insulated mini-ducts that run to each outlet(which can be ceiling, wall, or floor mounted) can be routed anywhere with ease, even through walls. Increasingly popular for installation in new construction and condo re-models to gain more ceiling height. SpacePak systems offer uniform temperatures, draft-free comfort, 30% greater humidity reduction, easy installation and super quiet operation. Chose between cooling only, heat pumps, auxiliary/primary electric heat, auxiliary/primary hot water heat, chilled water cooling, hot water heating. Chilled/hot water SpacePak systems can even be zoned using solenoid valves creating ultimate comfort and energy savings when using multiple air handlers. DX standard SpacePak systems can also be zoned in the plenum section using dampers allowing one air handler to individually control temperatures in distinct areas.

SpacePak® - What Parts Do I Need?

Use the following as a guide for planning and selecting the equipment you will need for a successful SpacePak system. In the section below you will find some useful links that will assist in planning. If you still need more help, please send us an email, or call us up for some help (813) 977-5286.

1. Gather Information
2. Complete Sizing Worksheet
If you are planning for new construction, then you can gather information from the blueprints. If your project is for an existing structure, then you will need to do a walk through and determine several things, such as where the air handler will be placed, where the plenum duct will be run so that it can keep the supply tubes as short as possible(9'-20' optimally with the 3' sound attenuating tube included), sizes of rooms, ceiling heights, sizes of windows/glass/doors, insulation values of windows/glass/doors, walls, floors, ceilings, sun exposure of each room, direction each window faces.
The next step is to take your information and go through and complete the sizing worksheet. This will tell you how many outlets you will need for each room, as well as the correctly sized system. If you would rather have us do the calculations and come up with an outlet guide and equipment list, just ask us. You can also download the sizing worksheet and instructions here. Press Here To View
3. Select Air Handler
4. Select Plenum Type
Once you know what size system you will need, you can select one or more of the air handlers. Depending on the location you have chosen to install the air handler, you can choose between horizontal or vertical mounted types if you are using regular DX air conditioning or heat pumps. Or if you are going to use a chilled/heated water system, you will use the WCSP horizontal model.
There are two types of main SpacePak plenum available and a high velocity sheet metal version. Square fiberboard and round sheet metal. The square fiberboard has an insulation value of R4.2, while the round sheet metal has an insulation value of R8. Depending on your building code, you may be limited to only using the sheet metal plenum with R8 insulation. The high velocity sheet metal is a very high quality commercial quality spiral type and has high praise from our contractors.
5. Select Plenum Components
6. Select Other Components
Once you know which plenum type you are using, you can then go through the appropriate section below and select the components that you will need to route the plenum through your project. Many components are available, like main plenum sections, tee's, and elbows, so you can route the plenum where ever it needs to go. If you are using the High Velocity round sheet metal plenum, you will need a coupler each time a straight plenum connects to another straight plenum. Try to keep your plenum long enough so that the supply tubes running to each room remain the length you indicated while doing the sizing worksheet.
You will need some other components for your system. You will need an adapter to attach the plenum to the air handler. You will need end caps to close the plenum, you will need to order enough installation kits to provide for the number of outlets you will be needing. The installation kits come with the plenum take off's, kwik-connects to connect the supply tubing and outlets, outlet terminators, hardware, sound attenuating tube and some restrictors for balancing airflow.
7. Select Supply Tube
8. Select Return Air Components
Next, based on how far each supply tube will need to be to run between the plenum and each outlet in each room, select the correct amount of rolls of tubing. The R4.2 supply tube comes in rolls of 100', the R6 comes in 75' rolls and the R8 supply tube comes in rolls of 50'.
For horizontal air handlers you will need the right sized return air box, as well as the right return air duct for your sized system. Or, if you are going to use the PurePak air cleaner, you substitute that for the return air box. So, you would need either a return air box, or a PurePak. If you are using a vertical air handler you can also choose the same components above, or you can use a direct mount filter rack, like if the air handler will be going in to a closet or utility room.
9. Select Optional Items
10. Optional Outlets
Depending on what your heating needs are, you can choose between electric duct heaters, or integral modulating variable outpump heaters to use a primary, or auxiliary heat for air conditioners, or heat pumps. Or, if you are using hot water heat, you can add on a hot water coil to the air handler. If you are using a water air handler, depending on how you are installing your system, some use one loop for chilled and heated water, or two loops, one for chilled and one for heated. If you use two loops you would need to add on a hot water coil. You may also find some of the installation tools helpful. If your installation calls for special wooden outlets, or decorative covers you will find a great assortment of wood types, or decorative options available. The decorator covers actually mount over the standard outlet terminators. The wooden and metal outlets take the place of the standard plastic terminator outlets.
